Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why "Be Blunt" for a kitchen knife name?

A: When discussing potential names, we kept saying "Its got to be blunt" and after many days discussion, it hit us, "its got to be blunt". We believe in being "blunt" about the reality of knife crime in the UK. By removing the point from kitchen knives—the most common sharp object in any home—we can reduce the risk of accidental or intentional injury without compromising on cooking performance. There is no real excuse for having a pointed tipped knife

Q: Can I sharpen them like a normal knife?

A: Yes! Because they are made of premium German steel, you can use a standard pull-through sharpener, a whetstone, or a honing steel to keep the edge perfect.

Q: Can I still cut a tomato (or other soft foods) with these knives?

A: Absolutely. While the tips are blunt for safety, the blade edge is razor-sharp. Our German Steel blades glide through tomato skins and soft vegetables without squishing them. You get the precision of a professional chef’s knife with the peace of mind of a rounded tip.

Q: I'm a property manager, can i make a large order to replace all the knives the Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) and my serviced accommodation (Airbnb) properties?

A: For sure, reach out to us at office@beblunt.co.uk for wholesale pricing.

Q: Tell me more about the steel used in the blade

A: We use premium German steel 1.4116 that is smelted in Finland by Europes leading Low Carbon stainless steel process, Outokumpu. We selected them as they are market leading in their commitment to low carbon emissions process. They also have made huge efforts to achieve true equal pay between genders. As at end of 2023 women earned 0.996 EUR for every 1 EUR earned by men.

Q: Tell me more about the Rosewood Handle

A: The Rosewood handle is crafted from richly grained hardwood that has been sustainably sourced from Zambia. Each handle is unique, perfectly balanced and finished for durability.

Q: What about the Pakkawood handle

A: Crafted from resin-infused hardwood for strength and stability. Designed to withstand real-life kitchens while delivering balance, control and lasting performance.

Q: Are these knives dishwasher safe?

A:As with most premium kitchen knives, we recommend hand washing and drying immediately after use to maintain sharpness and protect the handle finish. Dishwasher use may reduce long-term performance. If you feel that the knives may end up in the dishwasher on occasions, then purchase the Pakkawood version.

Q: How do you deliver in the UK?

A: We use Royal Mail tracked & signed service with Age Verification. This is so that we comply with UK legislation. Therefore the package cannot be left in a safe place by Royal Mail

Q: Why is being round tipped so important?

A: We currently have a huge problem in the UK with knife crime, both street-based violence, and, incidents within the domestic residential setting. There is a simple solution, and we can all help to achieve this resolution. We can make a change, in the design of knives, from blades with pointed tips to rounded ends.
